Just Be Quiet!

How Silence Awakens Your World

Enjoy the silence. It’s hard to find these days. It really does seem like you need to go up a mountain and climb into a cave to find silence. Even then, you will have the intruding sounds of airplanes overhead. What is a person seeking relief from this loud, loud world to do?

Would Siddhartha Gautama have been able to spend several weeks alone in the forest meditating without being bothered by the sounds of modern industry and crowds flocking to him and building a village around him, as happened to Ram Bahadur Bomjon, aka the Buddha Boy, in the mid-2000s?

Silence is more precious than ever today, and also more needed. Look around you. Most people seem to be stressed and anxious about something. About 43% of Americans are on mood-altering prescription drugs, which is not counting those who are going the route of plant-derived substances to get help with relaxing and just being in silent presence. There’s lots of doing, but hardly any being.

This is unfortunate, since silence awakens your world. People oftentimes find it difficult to just sit in silence, with themselves and with others. However, when you are utterly silent, a wave of peace washes over you. The secrets of the universe open up to you because you have become quiet enough to be aware of them. You connect with your inner being that connects with the Source Supermind of Reality.

How to Practice Silence

In today’s demanding and noisy world, it can be difficult to get truly silent and be at peace. Here are some tips on how you can cultivate silence for yourself.

Find a Place to Retreat Into Silence

Come up with a place outside, or a location within your home, where you can retreat to and become silent. You can consider this a sacred space where you will come to specifically practice silence. Make sure to leave your technology behind, or at least turn it off. Do what you can to make sure any intrusive sounds are not going to distract you.

If you hear the various modes of noisy transportation, incessant leaf blowers, or people shouting, you should probably find another space. If this is simply too difficult for you to do, get yourself a pair of noise-canceling headphones and put those on.

Set a Time for Silence

It may seem strange to schedule quiet time, but it really does help make this a new habit for you. Set a calendar reminder on your phone or write it down somewhere in an agenda so you will remember to go into silence at the same time, every day.

Close your Eyes and Listen

When you finally sit (this will help you avoid falling asleep), get comfortable and close your eyes. This is when you start the practice of silence awakening your world. Become open and receptive to the subtle voice of your inner being and the all-permeating field of consciousness that is All that Is.

You may find it difficult to get silent initially It may take you 15, 20, or 30 minutes at first to get to that place of inner calm, especially if you had a long day and are busy rehashing everything that happened to you that day. If you have difficulty breaking free from the distracting thoughts, focus on your breath or on peace. You can even visualize a calm lake with gentle ripples. Whatever works for you will work best, so just take these as suggestions.

Once you become truly silent, your world becomes alive in a way that brings you the clarity of insight, as well as a profound sense of inner peace. In a world which is becoming increasingly loud, it is imperative to give ourselves the gift of silence.

50 Tips for Engaged Living

50 Life Secrets and Tips

50 Life Secrets and Tips
  1. Memorize something everyday. Not only will this leave your brain sharp and your memory functioning, you will also have a huge library of quotes to bust out at any moment. Poetry, sayings and philosophies are your best options.
  2. Constantly try to reduce your attachment to possessions. Those who are heavy-set with material desires will have a lot of trouble when their things are taken away from them or lost. Possessions do end up owning you, not the other way around. Become a person of minimal needs and you will be much more content.
  3. Develop an endless curiosity about this world.Become an explorer and view the world as your jungle. Stop and observe all of the little things as completely unique events. Try new things. Get out of your comfort zone and try to experience as many different environments and sensations as possible. This world has so much to offer, so why not take advantage of it?
  4. Remember people’s namesso that they feel appreciated and for your own future benefit when you want something from that person. To do this, say their name back to them when they introduce themselves. Then repeat the name in your head a number of times until you are sure you have it. Continue to use their name in conversation as much as possible to remove any chance of forgetting it. If you’re still having trouble, make up a rhyme about their name: “Dan the Man” or “Natalie flatters me.”
  5. Get fit! It’s ridiculous to think that we have one body, one sole means of functioning, and people are too lazy to take care of themselves. Fit bodies lead to better health, confidence and more success with romantic endeavors. I’d say those are 3 very good reasons to get in shape.
  6. Learn to focus only on the present. The past is unchangeable so it is futile to reflect on it unless you are making sure you do not repeat past mistakes. The future is but a result of your actions today. So learn from the past to do better in the present so that you can succeed in the future.
  7. Even more specifically, live in THIS moment.Even 10 minutes ago is the past. If you live purely in this moment you will always be happy because there is nothing wrong in this split-second.
  8. Smile more often.Whenever you get a grin on your face, your brain is releasing serotonin, the happy hormone. Smiling is the natural way to force yourself to be happy. Many people even smile for five minutes straight in the morning to get themselves in a great mood for the day. It is a very powerful tool that is utilized less and less as we grow older and need happiness more than ever. Just remember that while happiness leads to smiles, smiles also lead to happiness.
  9. Drink water.Hydration is tremendously important for overall health. Soda has absolutely ZERO nutritional content; it’s like pouring a punch of sugar and syrup into your cup. Instead, fill it with life-replenishing water. It may taste plain at first if you’re coming off of a heavy soda-drinking streak, but you’ll soon find yourself addicted to it. 10 glasses per day is optimal, how many have you been getting lately?
  10. Don’t take life so seriously!Learn to laugh at the little things and this whole “existence” thing will be a whole lot easier. Be amused by your mistakes and failures and be thankful that you learned your lesson and won’t mess up like that again. And most importantly do things that you enjoy! Life is not strictly business, it can be mixed with pleasure.
  11. Think positive thoughts. When you find yourself thinking a negative thought, stop it immediately by any means necessary. Slap yourself in the face, yell something positive at the top of your lungs or jump up and down. Do whatever it takes to get back to a positive mindset as such is essential for continual happiness and success.
  12. Read books.No explanation needed.
  13. Get in the sun.Superman was completely re-energized when he flew out to space and soaked in some rays and you can do the same right outside your front door (if you live in a constantly dreary place, my apologies). The sun feels amazing: your entire body will be coursing with warmth and life.
  14. Help others.I’ll just give you a plethora of reasons why this is a MUST
    • Helping people has a ripple effect. If you help someone they will feel more obliged to help someone else, and so on. Pay it forward
    • You grow by giving and helping others. It can change you in ways you never expected
    • Your relationship with that person will become stronger
    • It’s the most fulfilling thing you can do on this planet. It not only feels amazing physically, you also feel like a good person
    • You might be able to call in a favor later when you need some help
    • Karma (if you believe in it)
    • Because there are more people in this world than just you
  15. Set aside a specific time to worry each day.Ponder all of your problems and anxieties during that time so that they will not distract you during work or moments of pleasure. This way you can be extremely efficient with your time and avoid focusing on negative things as much as possible. If you get all of your worry out of the way and have the mental fortitude to keep from reverting back to them, you will be much happier on the daily.
  16. Be honest at all times.

Now is the Time to Prioritize

With the energetic shifts and changes that are going on at this time, it is very important for everyone to know what is truly important for them.  This involves talking time to sit down and review what it is that makes your life truly fulfilling.  And this means prioritizing — what is it that you positively cannot live with and what are the things that are there because they are there, props and settings, cast members and contexts.  IT is time to know the difference and make some decisions as to what you do and/or do not want.  You get the idea.

This is not an easy thing to do.  We spend much of our lives explaining why we have certain place, people, and things in our life and why they are important.  We spend a lot of time justifying relationships, jobs, locales…  But that is the world outside.  It is time to get to know the world within.  Once you are clear, centered, and focused on what it is that truly brings you fulfillment, then you can see all the other things as what they truly are.  Moreover you can make informed and self-empowering choices as to what you do and do not want around you.

So get ready to sit down, center, ground and be with WHO you truly are.  It is time to have some fun.  It is time to make lists, drawings, songs, whatever it is that allows you to get in touch with your heart’s knowing.  There are no rights or wrongs, no goods or bads.  No one will be grading you.  No one needs even be aware that you are brave enough to do this.  This is all about you and being WHO you are.  Give yourself time and intention as part of this exercise.  Get some paper, pen, pencil, crayons, paints, clay, and let’s go:

Step One involves the intention.  Find a comfortable place, where you feel safe and supported.  Turn off the phone, all those external distractions and devices that give you excuses, that pass your time.  Now, perhaps a bit of soft music.  Tea, water, if you are so inclined.  The important thing is that you feel safe and comfortable.

Breathe in, and go to your Heart center.  Stay there for the time it takes to get to know how this feels and what this means.  Then allow the wise one of your heart to take you to your core.  Breathe in the energy of the core. and say hello to WHO you are.  Sometimes approaching this as a dialogue makes it flow more freely.  You might be a bit surprised to see your WHO, so strong, so capable.  That is you in your own power.  You are always there.  It is time to be aware of that.

Now open, focus, and allow.  You are safe here for you are in your own center where no external things can disturb or harm you.  It is time to see things for what they are, behind the seeming and the gleaming of the physcial.

In your perfect world, where you are not trapped to the demands, schedules, rigors, schedules, bills, etc. of this life, what would you do, what are your deepest wishes, how do things look to you?  Put aside all external elements, badges, definitions, etc.  Go deep within to your heart.  Be brave.  This is not an exercise for the weak. You are strong.  Know this.

Be centered  in your core.  Ask yourself what it is that brings forth your light and your joy.  Then just experiences how this feels to you.  Be with it for a time.  Then come back to your body and record the place you went, the feeling you got, and the intention that goes with this.  Breathe.

Take what you have created at the end of this exercise, and put it up somewhere that you can see it on a regular basis.  It is your talisman.  It is your key to unlocking that place where YOU are truly WHO you are, your YOU-WHO!

STEP TWO:  In process.

Step Two is the action step.  Now that you have the intention and the outline, it is time to know how to make this real in your life.  THis is an important step, for once you accept and allow what you truly are to be WHO you truly are, then you can go about creating and manifesting this.

FInd a quiet space, and take time to center and ground.  Express your intention and make it the focus of this meditation.  See yourself as you wish to be with the things around you that bring your fulfillment.
