Daytime Meteor Showers

fr/spaceweather.com

A METEOR SHOWER IN BROAD DAYLIGHT: The annual Arietid meteor shower peaks this week on June 7th and 8th. The Arietids are unusual because they are daytime meteors; the shower is most intense after sunrise. People who wake up early might notice a small number of Arietids during the dark hours before dawn. The real action, however, occurs in broad daylight.

Solar Flare & Radiation Storm

M-FLARE AND RADIATION STORM: This morning around 0641 UT, magnetic fields above sunspot complex 1226-1227 became unstable and erupted. The blast produced an M2-class solar flare, an S1-class radiation storm, and a massive CME. A recording of the blast from NASA’s Solar Dynamics Observatory ranks as one of the most beautiful and dramatic movies of the SDO era:

Fire Up Your Creativity & Passion

6 Techniques to Ignite Your Inner Creativity and Passion

by Ronald Alexander, Ph.D.—Author, ‘Wise Mind, Open Mind’; Executive Director, The OpenMind Training Institute

Posted: 04/26/11 08:54 AM ETMost of us were taught that creativity comes from the thoughts and emotions of the mind. However, the greatest singers, dancers, painters, writers and filmmakers recognize that the most original, and even transformative, ideas actually come from the core of our being, which is accessed through an “open-mind consciousness.”

In ancient traditions, open-mind consciousness was considered to be a spiritual awakening, the great enlightenment that dissolves the darkness of confusion and fear and ushers in peace, happiness, clarity and contentment

Gregg Braden on Spirituality & Science

The Wisdom of a Spirituality-Based Science

Posted: 06/ 5/11 11:17 AM ET

During the last years of the Cold War, I had a front row seat as a senior systems designer in the defense industry to one of the most frightening times in the history of the world, and the thinking that led to it. During the last years of the most potentially lethal, yet undeclared, war in human history, the superpowers of the United States and the former Soviet Union did something that seems unthinkable to any rationally minded person today. They spent the time, energy, and human resources to develop and stockpile somewhere in the neighborhood of 65,000 nuclear weapons — a combined arsenal with the power to microwave the Earth, and everything on it, many times over.

The rationale for such an extreme effort stems from a way of thinking that has dominated much of the modern world for the last 300 years or so, since the beginning of the scientific era. It’s based in the false assumptions of scientific thinking that suggest we’re somehow separate from the Earth, separate from one another, and that the nature that gives us life is based upon relentless struggle and survival of the strongest

(TheWeatherSpace.com) — Both basins are battling it out for the first named system of the year, which one will it be?

Invest 91e is in the most favored location, west of Mexico. This system is in perfect position for rapid development over the next 48 hours and I would not be surprised to see it become a named system this week. The system will be named Adrian. Adrian would move to the northwest.

The system in the Caribbean Sea, Invest94l, has been affecting Jamaica, and the other islands surrounding it, with flooding rains as it just floats out there not moving much at all.

(TheWeatherSpace.com) — A strong storm system moving into California today could have caused a major tornado outbreak across Tornado Alley if the ridge was not there.

According to TheWeatherSpace.com Senior Meteorologist Kevin Martin’s study, the ridge causing all the hot temperatures in the Southern Plains and Southeastern United States (Article Here)is better than what would have happened had it not been there.

“Dumbocracy”

Dumb Politicians, Celebrities And Criminals: Reader’s Digest ‘Dumbocracy’ Suffers Fools Gladly

First Posted: 05-28-11 09:15 AM   |   Updated: 05-31-11 08:17 AM

‘s Memorial Day weekend, a time to remember some of the country’s heroes who have made this a great democracy. But when the Reader’s Digest gang surveyed the land from sea to shining sea, they found enough boneheaded behavior to make it seem at times as though we live in a “dumbocracy”.

You know who they’re talking about: dimwitted crooks, airhead celebrities and mindless politicians. Time and time again, these goofy citizens get away with — or at least try to get away with — the kind of half-baked ideas that make the rest of us wonder how common is common sense. (We’re looking at you, Charlie Sheen.)

“No one really feels sorry for these people,” said Reader’s Digest editor Andy Simmons. “People love to laugh at them. It makes you feel better that you’re not the only schmuck making mistakes.”

A full mind-boggling list of blunders, boo-boos and boners comes out in the magazine’s June/July issue. But while you kick back this holiday weekend, relax with a sneak peak and feel fortunate that you didn’t bungle your way into this group of clueless underachievers.

Volcanic lightning is seen, miles

Volcanic lightning is seen over the Puyehue volcano, over 500 miles south of Santiago, Chile, Sunday June 5, 2011. Authorities have evacuated about 600 people in the nearby area. The volcano was calm on Sunday, one day after raining down ash and forcing thousands to flee, although the cloud of soot it had belched out still darkened skies as far away as Argentina. Weekend Solar Blast

    Large Detached Solar Prominence

    by Stephen W. Ramsden

While displaying the Sun to 500+ kids and their families at the Virginia Highlands Summer Festival in Atlanta, GA, we were all witness to this incredible display of solar activity. Early in the morning a large magnetically supercharged chunk of Hydrogen Plasma was ejected from the limb of the Sun right before our eyes. It just hung there over the Sun almost 25 Earth Diameters high. It was breathtaking to watch and really got the attendees interested in our nearest star.

According to Wikipedia: Puyehue and Cordón Caulle are two coalesced volcanic vents that form a major mountain massif inPuyehue National Park in the Andes of Ranco ProvinceChile. In volcanology this group is known as the Puyehue-Cordón Caulle Volcanic Complex (PCCVC). Four different volcanoes constitute the volcanic group or complex, the Cordillera Nevada caldera, thePliocene Mencheca volcano, Cordón Caulle fissure vents and the Puyehue stratovolcano.

Lightning bolts strike around the Puyehue-Cordon Caulle volcanic chain in the Patagonia region at sunrise June 5. The volcano dormant for decades erupted in south-central Chile on Saturday, belching ash over 6 miles into the sky, as winds fanned it toward neighboring Argentina, and prompting the government to evacuate several thousand residents, Chilean authorities said.

Puyehue volcano erupted for the first time in half a century on June 4, prompting evacuations for 3,500 people as it sent a cloud of ash that reached Argentina. The National Service of Geology and Mining said the explosion that sparked the eruption also produced a column of gas six miles high, hours after warning of strong seismic activity in the area.
