(TheWeatherSpace.com) — An increase in seismic activity at Iceland’s Katla Volcano is stirring the world up as predictions of the past have revealed Katla follows Eyjafjallajokul, which erupted in April of 2010.

Scientists say not to worry though right now. TheWeatherSpace.com was able to speak to Pall Enarsson of the University of Iceland about the activity.

“Earthquakes are normal for Katla, but one occurring every ten minutes is not,” he said. “We are having small swarms which are not common.”

Scientists flew over Katla on Tuesday evening but could not detect the cause of the increased activity, but stressed the volcano has seen similar activity in the past.

Signs have been detected that Katla was preparing for an eruption and scientists are keeping watch.

UPDATE 14/08-10:26 UTC : The local government of Garut regency, West Java has started the planning of evacuation routes. The government does not want to improvise if the alert status would go up further to level IV (the alert level remains at III since yesterday).
Garut Regent HM Aceng Fikri, said that thevillages of Citeureup, Bayongbong andCisurupan located along the River Cibeureum,  will probably be exposed to a possible direct impact of volcanic activity.
The villages are located approx. 7 kilometers from the crater of Papandayan volcano. Additionally, the local government will be ready with all necessary relief aid and equipment if an evacuataion would be imminent.  As the Papandayan volcano has an explosive history, people are scared for destructive Lahars and pyroclastic clouds.
lahar is a type of mudflow or debris flow composed of a slurry of pyroclastic material, rocky debris, and water. The material flows down from a volcano, typically along a river valley.

Underwater Volcano off Oregon Has Erupted

Surprise! Underwater volcano has erupted

Scientists going back to pick up monitoring equipment find a changed seafloor

An undersea volcano has erupted off the coast of Oregon, spewing forth a layer of lava more than 12 feet thick in some places, and opening up deep vents that belch forth a cloudy stew of hot water and microbes from deep inside the Earth.

Scientists uncovered evidence of the early April eruption on a routine expedition in late July to the Axial Seamount, an underwater volcano that stands 250 miles off the coast of Oregon.

The discovery came as a surprise, as researchers attempted to recover instruments they’d left behind to monitor the peak a year earlier. When the researchers hefted a seafaring robotic vehicle overboard to fetch the instruments, the feed from the onboard camera sent back images of an alien seafloor landscape.

(TheWeatherSpace.com) — Alaska’s Cleveland Volcano may be about ready to erupt within the next 10 years.

The Alaska Volcano Observatory has issued an eruption advisory for the Cleveland Volcano. It has erupted a few times since 2001, which produced ash clouds as high as 40,000 feet above sea level.

Satellite imagery is showing a heat signature that may mean it is about ready to erupt violently, according to the AVO.

Indonesia’s Mt. Lokon Erupts Twice

Double eruption at Indonesia volcano: vulcanologist

(AFP) – 1 day ago

JAKARTA — An Indonesian volcano erupted twice on Monday following its biggest eruption in weeks over the weekend, a government vulcanologist said, forcing people to remain in safety shelters.

“The two eruptions happened within ten minutes which sent a column of ash and smoke up to 600 metres (1,968 feet) into the air,” government vulcanologist Freddy Korompis told AFP from a monitoring post.

The 1,580-metre Mount Lokon experienced its biggest eruption on Sunday with huge clouds of ash propelled 3,500 metres (11,500 feet) into the sky.
