Top 5 Ways to Relieve Plantar Fasciitis

Plantar-Fasciitis Anyone who has experienced the debilitating pain of plantar fasciitis will tell you how awful the condition can be. Those suffering from it are typically unable to perform a number of physical activities, and often even have difficulty walking. Fortunately, several natural methods exist to safely treat the condition.

What is Plantar Fasciitis?

Plantar fasciitis is the inflammation of the plantar fascia, a ligament which runs on the underside of the foot, particularly in the heel. Generally speaking, it is caused by overuse of the ligament, and is commonly exacerbated by physical activity, weight gain and aging. Rebecca Simonds, a Doctor of Physical Therapy Candidate at Emory University, noted that flare ups can also occur as a result of calf tightness or ill-fitting shoes.

It is a fairly common condition, occurring in some two million Americans each year, and can usually be effectively treated with the proper techniques. However, if left untreated, plantar fasciitis can evolve into plantar fasciosis, a more serious, degenerative condition.

The pain resulting from the condition can be treated with nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (), but this method generally only provides short-term relief, and does not typically heal the condition. With that in mind, consider attempting some, or all, of the following five methods as a superior way to stop a painful case of plantar fasciitis.

1.

Stretches designed to release tension in the heel and foot may help to keep the plantar fascia loose and unstrained. The three most common stretches are to bend your toes upward with your hand, bend your toes downward, and stretch out the back of each heel by pressing against a wall with one foot out behind you. Simonds also recommends stretching your calves off the edge of a step, or by gently pulling your big tow back towards your shin. Typically these stretches are performed one or two times, held for about 30 seconds each, and performed two or three times per day. Use caution in performing stretches, and release the stretch if it results in serious pain.

2. Cold Therapy

Applying ice packs to the affected area can help to reduce inflammation and swelling, and ultimately lead to reduced pain. One effective way to do this, Simonds suggests, is by freezing a bottle of water, putting it on the floor and “self massaging” the bottom of your foot for a few minutes.

Different professionals suggesting varying methods of ice treatment (and sometimes recommend mixing it with heat treatment), but in general, performing a structured ice-on, ice-off regimen over a series of days will be the most effective treatment.

3. Braces, Inserts, and Splints

Varieties of useful contraptions are available to help eliminate the strain on the plantar fascia, and should be considered for relief. Braces designed to tightly wrap around the ankle, heel, and foot can help to relieve the strain on the ligament. Likewise, shoe inserts can be used to provide additional padding and support for the heel. Splints (which are designed to be worn at night) act to stretch the ligament, and keep it from becoming tense. These types of products are widely available, and can be ordered online or purchased in stores.

4. Lose Weight

This option may be easier said than done, but reducing your weight can lessen the pain of plantar fasciitis. As the condition affects the foot and heel, greater amounts of weight to support result in greater demand and strain. Simply put, the less weight, the better. If this method of treatment applies in your situation, consider it additional motivation to improve your health, and an opportunity to improve two conditions with one approach.

5. Rest and Rub

Rest may be the most difficult treatment of all for someone with a busy schedule or an athletic event on the horizon, but in some cases it may be the only treatment that works. One smart approach is to pinpoint a particular activity that triggers the pain, and avoid it for an appropriate period of time. However, in more severe cases, general rest may be necessary, including limiting your amount of walking. Rest in combination with the aforementioned methods, may be a particularly effective mix.

And while you’re getting your due rest, Simonds recommends massaging the foot and the calf using a foam roller, to help relieve any muscle tension that might prolong the pain.

Most people will be able to alleviate the pain of plantar fasciitis by following some combination of the methods already described. In particularly severe cases, less natural methods may be considered, such as cortisone injections, surgery, and even extracorporeal shockwave therapy. However, all of these methods have dangerous potential side effects, and should only be considered in rare circumstances after all other methods have been thoroughly exhausted.

Prior to panicking or performing any drastic measures, be sure to try combining some or all of these five methods to eliminate plantar fasciitis. First and foremost, remember that rest may be your best option, and despite the frustration of down time and temporarily giving up some activities you enjoy, it may be the best long-term solution.

Are you a starseed? Starseeds (or ‘lightbeings’) is a term used to describe human beings who believe they originated as extraterrestrial life from other worlds or planets, and arrived to Earth through birth or as a walk-in to an existing human body.

Persons calling themselves star seeds find that they share in common feelings of isolation or aloneness, as though they don’t quite fit in to Earth institutions and current events. It is estimated that 65 percent of starseeds are women and that about about one-fourth of these have unusual blood types. In surveys with people thought to be Star People (starseeds), the Science Channel reports that nearly half reported near-death experience and seventy-five percent had out-of-body experience. Nearly all of them say they feel tremendous urgency to fulfill a mission.

Starseeds are defined as evolved beings from another planet, star system or galaxy who have come to Earth with the specific mission of assisting its people to achieve a higher level of civilization.

In reports based on surveys, starseeds (also “beings of light”) incarnate into human lifeforms and suffer the same conditions of helplessness and total amnesia concerning their identity, origins and life-purpose as Earth humans do. Starseeds differ in a theory that their genes contain alien DNA, and are encoded to awaken them and their awareness at a planned time.

The awakening process experienced by starseeds is described as either a gradual series of realizations over time, or an abrupt and dramatic awakening of consciousness. Through the awakening process, starseeds regain their memories about their past, their origins and their missions. An increase in intuition, psychic ability, and the sense of a more universal “self” that transcends mortal identity are also commonly reported experiences.

Some star people speak of communication via telepathy with beings not of this world, either physical or non-physical. Elevated awareness claims that communication or memories recall extraterrestrial or multidimensional life, such as “beings of light” (lightbeings).

Persons who identify themselves and others as starseeds share a belief that life exists on other planets. Most believe they have lived on other planets, and many account having experiences that they claim are memories of life on other worlds. Make Your Own Topical Home Remedies & Salves, the Easy Way

What will you do when tubes of triple antibiotic cream is no longer as close as the pharmacy department of the nearest Wal-Mart? With a little study and preparation, you’ll make your own, of course!

I have a child with numerous allergies and sensitivities, so even now, with the commercial salves readily available, I prefer the peace of mind that comes from making my own topical remedies so that I know every single ingredient contained within.

Salves and balms are very simple and can be made in a few easy steps. They have two basic components – the base and the healing herbs.

 

Step 1: Create a Base for Your Salve

  • Plant oil (grape seed oil, coconut oil, olive oil) – these are rich in vitamin E
  • Petroleum Jelly – I’m not a fan – if you are going to the effort of using natural non-chemical products, you might want to reconsider a base made from petroleum.
  • Beeswax (not good for people with pollen allergies). This is also added to salves to harden the oils more easily. For two cups of plant based oil, use 1 1/2 ounces of beeswax. For smaller quantities of salve: one ounce of oil will need about 1/2 teaspoon of beeswax to harden the salve.
  • Lanolin
  • Honey (has the benefit of being a natural antibiotic)

Typically, for a larger quantity of salve, you will use around 1/2 to 1 cup of oil. Keep in mind that you want to use enough oil to cover 1 inch above the herbs while they are heated. Once you have chosen your base, then it is time to select your “herbal medicinal” ingredient or ingredients. See below for a directory of some commonly found medicinal herbs.

Step 2: Add the Healing Herbs or Essential Oils

If you have essential oils available you can skip the step for extracting the medicinal qualities from the herbs. Otherwise, use this process to extract the healing properties of the herbs.

  1. On a double broiler, stir the 1 cup of plant-based oil and herb or herbs on low heat for one to two hours, stirring often. Ensure the oil is covering the herb blend. The longer you cook the herbs in the oil, the stronger your mixture will be.
  2. Alternatively, use your crockpot on a low setting to extract the medicinal qualities from the herbs.  In the crock pot the process takes 3-5 hours but the mixture does not have to be tended and stirred.  It takes longer to extract the healing qualities from roots than from leaves.
  3. Using cheese cloth or an extremely fine mesh colander, strain the herbs from the oil. Place the oil back into the top of the double boiler and add beeswax to harden the salve. Stir until completely melted.
  4. Check to see if the balm has hardened sufficiently by dipping out a small amount in a spoon and allowing it to cool. If it is still runny, you need to add more beeswax.
  5. Pour the mixture into a sterile container and add essential oils or vitamin E oil (if desired), stirring well.  Store in a cool dry place.
  6. Always test a skin patch before wide use, and then, if there is no reaction, most salves can be used as needed several times per day.

Choosing the Best Healing Herbs or Essential Oils

Using the directions provided above, many different salves can be created. Try some of the following combinations or refer to the 30 Most Popular Herbs for Natural Medicine for more examples of herbs that can be used medicinally.

  • Aloe Vera and Vitamin E – great for burns and sunburns
  • Calendula and Comfrey – soothing for rashes, burns and minor irritation
  • Aloe Vera and Vitamin E – great for burns and sunburns
  • Goldenseal, Comfrey and Echinacea – antibacterial
  • Black Walnut, Burdock, Echinacea and Tea Tree Oil – fungal infections
  • Eucalyptus oil and Camphor oil – Chest rub (like homemade Vick’s)
  • Arnica Flower – sprains, sore muscles and bruises
  • Tea tree oil and Lavender oil – antibiotic
  • Chamomile and comfrey – soothing for rashes and insect bites
  • White willow bark – mild analgesic

One day you may be looking to nature for your pharmaceuticals. As well, consider planting the herbs (many of these are perennial) and/or locating places in your area where they grow wild. Do some research – find out what bounty nature provides in your locale and find out how the items can be used in your natural medicine cabinet.

Fortifying the explosion of cancer – A study

NaturalNews) Some things in nature simply work, because they are a part of a whole, an integral part and some specific function which contributes to the underlying naturalistic state. The word “fortified,” when referring to food, is often misleading because people are led to believe that food scientists simply “add back in” some vitamins by magically “inserting” them into food that “needs nutritional help.” This fortification can create the exact opposite effect and cause damage to the human body, which often cannot assimilate these “individual”and separate fortifications. How many foods are “fortified” with things your body can’t even use, and even worse, contain synthetic additives that wreak havoc on your cells? Since cancer is the mutation of cells that multiply and divide uncontrollably, this form of food and vitamin “processing” is adding to the cancer “explosion” we see taking place in the U.S., where every third person is fighting the “c” word right now.

The English dictionary defines “fortified” as “to strengthen (a place) with defensive works so as to protect it against attack”; e.g., “The whole town was heavily fortified.” So if we put this into “action” with food, it sounds like we’re getting a real boost of immunity with every bite! The Great Fortification Hoax

Take an inside look at some typical characteristics of fortified foods. This is where you find the synthetic “Trojan horses” of the food industry, showing up in places you thought were safe:

• Fortified foods are often sold in boxes, cans, plastic or foil wrap or artificial containers.

• They are heavily advertised – many companies who sell these foods spend more on advertising budgets than on food quality.

• They are often altered from their original state – some type of chemical alteration like heat (such as boiling), pressure (pulsing), oxidation, osmotic inhibition (use of syrups), ultra high water pressure (a type of pasteurization) or toxin inhibition (such as smoking, use of carbon dioxide).

• Synthetic and isolated nutrients are added that are not naturally occurring.

Fortified iodized salt is bad!

One of the first foods to become fortified was salt. Iodized salt was first introduced in 1924 in Michigan. As scientists began to study the importance of nutrients, minerals and micro-nutrients in health, they began creating synthetic forms of these elements in laboratories for application in foods; however, this reductionist approach disregards the necessity of the elements in their natural state in whole foods, which is the only place where synergistic complexes that are necessary for health can be found. After World War II, more than half of the food for sale in America was processed, and the scientists figured out exactly what additives, preservatives and “fortifiers” helped Big Pharma get bigger. Fast forward to today.

Fortifying disease and illness

Although discussions in health communities about “nutrient toxicity” and warnings of “overdoses” are abundant, the vast differences between synthetic nutrients produced in a laboratory and real nutrients in whole foods are seldom discussed. When people consume artificially produced vitamins and minerals, the risk of overdose and toxicity increases exponentially. Why is that? Nutrients contained in whole foods from nature are balanced correctly, and overdosing from those important elements would be nearly impossible. The bottom line is that “in order for the human body to recognize and use nutrients, they cannot be produced artificially in a lab and isolated to be added into foods where they do not normally occur.” The key words here are “recognize and use,” not fortify and confuse.

Cereal and milk both “fortified” synthetically

Cereal and milk are two of the best examples of fortified foods. Most boxed cereals are produced through a process called extrusion, where grains are forced through a small hole in a machine and then subjected to high temperatures. The grains are then fortified with synthetic nutrients to “replace” what was lost during processing. Milk goes through a similar process. It is heated or pasteurized to kill harmful bacteria, but as this occurs, good bacteria and vitamins are also denatured or compromised. Denatured is defined as to “take away or alter the natural qualities of.” Yet the outlandish claim about pasteurization that nutrients are not significantly destroyed is still made. So then, if that’s the case, why fortify with vitamin D? This is done to trick the general public into believing the food is good for them and gives them the chance to keep their customers for life. You see, synthetic vitamin D cannot be properly assimilated into the human body without many other co-factors and enzymes, including vitamin A, all of which are damaged during pasteurization. On “Organic” Canola Oil

Organic canola oil; Is that an oxymoron?

NaturalNews) First of all, if canola oil is processed from rapeseed oil, which is highly toxic to humans, can canola legitimately be labeled “organic,” just because the farmers aren’t using pesticides or chemical fertilizers? Let’s go back to the drawing board on this one and figure this out before we all consume a boatload more of “organic canola,” thinking the coast is clear. The organic farming movement arose in the 1940’s in response to the industrialization of agriculture. Seventy years later, there are strict regulations and vigorous inspections to make sure anything carrying the USDA organic seal is legitimately organic. Organic food also means that there is no irradiation, no synthetic inputs and absolutely no GMOs (genetically modified organisms) or chemical additives. Though organic food is safer and healthier than conventional food, no companies can make that claim, so how does canola fly under the radar and gain that organic seal when it comes from rapeseed? Did you know that bio-diesel is also derived from rapeseed? Rape is actually a weed and even insects won’t eat it, so why are millions of people eating canola every day whether it’s organic or not? Canola oil, organic or not, inhibits enzyme function

Wait, did you think there was a canola plant, like corn, soy or sunflower? Did you think making canola is just about pressing seeds? Want to put a “hex” on your health? Insert “hexane” and wait for problems to rear their ugly head. Hexane, a vapor component of gasoline, is used to process oils and has been since WWII. Yes, hexane is flammable. So how is this organic? Good question. Hexane is a chemical made from crude oil, the mainstream solvent extraction method of the entire Western world. So how does rapeseed oil magically turn into canola oil? Is it bleached, deodorized or cooked at high heat to remove the stink? The omega-3 fatty acids of processed canola oil are transformed during the deodorizing process into trans-fatty acids. The reason why canola is particularly unsuited for consumption is that it contains a very long-chain fatty acid called erucic acid, which under some circumstances is associated with fibrotic heart lesions.

One study indicated that “heart healthy” canola oil actually created a deficiency of vitamin E, which, as many of us know, is essential to our cardiovascular health. Also, because of canola’s high sulfur content, it goes rancid easily, so baked goods containing canola develop molds quickly. Plus, it exacerbates problems for anyone allergic to sulfur or who has bronchial or asthma issues.

All food grade canola, including the varieties sold in health food stores, are deodorized by 300 degree Fahrenheit high-temperature refining to remove its natural terrible stink. You cannot cook a vegetable oil at that temperature and leave behind anything beneficial. That’s why corporations love it. But the poisonous hexane residue left behind is why corporations are MARRIED to it. Still, food scientists and the FDA explain away the danger of hexane by saying that it evaporates when heated, “either through direct or indirect contact with steam,” so the food no longer contains enough to be harmful to humans. Nice try. So if I get some canola, pour on some gasoline, bleach and pesticide, and then steam it really well, we’re all good to go?

What’s next, organic mustard gas?

It is a known fact that canola oil comes from the rape seed, which is part of the mustard family of plants. Mustard gas was made from rapeseeds and used in World War II for genocide. Rape seed is the most toxic of all food-oil plants, much more toxic than soy oil, yet Canada annually exports over 3 million tons of canola seed, over 700,000 tons of canola oil and a million tons of canola “meal.” And guess who Canada’s #1 buyer is … yep, the U.S.A. Even if canola is labeled organic, major doubt remains about its value to the human body. Canola oil is high in glycosides, which means it inhibits enzyme function. Why do vaccines harm children?

The entire vaccine industry — including all its bought-and-paid-for doctors, authors, “scientists” and PR flaks — has for decades knowingly lied to the world in claiming that vaccines have “zero risk” and “zero side effects.”

In truth, even the CDC still admits that vaccines contain four additives, each of which is a potent neurotoxic chemical. Those additives include:

I Found A Blind Baby Sparrow Below My Balcony After A Storm

We usually write about other people, but today I want to share my own story. It all began after one stormy night, when my girlfriend saw what we thought was a dead sparrow below our balcony. He was barely breathing, covered in ants and completely blind.

We brought him home and put him in a box. After spending a night in our bedroom, he woke us up with high-pitched tweeting. We tried feeding him, but without any luck, so we placed him in our balcony. He continued tweeting non-stop for 3 hours. Finally, his father found him and started feeding him. He brought his chick huge bugs and bread every 10-15 minutes all day long for two weeks straight.

He was getting bigger every day, but he was still blind. I called a vet, and he told me to try simple eye drops. It worked like a charm! He even started hiding from us behind our flowers. Soon, his father started showing him how to fly trough the window. One day he just left – we knew this day would come eventually. We became really worried because that same night, and for the next few days, there was really stormy weather. However, 3 days later, he came back and fell asleep in one of our pots.
